Donald Perlman, MD Memorial Scholarship Recipient: Alice Moody
We are proud to announce that Alice Moody, the 2025 recipient of the Donald Perlman, MD Memorial Scholarship, is an accomplished student from Essex. She attends Manchester Essex Regional High School, where she maintains an impressive 5.16 GPA while taking AP and honors classes. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Beyond academics, Alice has spent the past five years working at Woodman’s and is actively involved in her school’s Science Club, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), and Peer Mentoring program.
Alice’s journey toward a career in oncology has been deeply personal. During her freshman year, her father was diagnosed with cancer, which left her determined to contribute to the fight against cancer. She immersed herself in a summer medical program, at Tufts where she conducted lab tests, worked with real data, and explored the field of health sciences—realizing her desire to become a doctor.
Her commitment was further solidified when, this past summer, her stepfather was also diagnosed with cancer. This experience reinforced her aspiration to dedicate her life to cancer research and medicine, particularly oncology. Alice is determined to make a meaningful impact on a cause that has profoundly shaped her life.
One of her teachers shared, “Alice is one of the most sincere and genuine students I have had the pleasure of teaching.”
This fall, Alice will be attending Emory University, where she plans to major in biology before pursuing medical school. We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.
Donald Perlman, MD Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was not only renewed but has been increased to $5,000 and is generously funded by Cynthia Perlman and her family in memory of Dr. Perlman who also was a former recipient of our Hope Begins Here Award and who recently passed away.
Dr. Donald Perlman was a renowned board-certified general surgeon specializing in breast disease and tumors of the skin. Dr. Perlman practiced with Surgical Specialists of the North Shore following 48 years of private practice in Lynn. Dr. Perlman served as both Associate Chief and Chief of Surgery for Lynn Hospital, and as Clinical Instructor for Mass General Hospital surgical residents at Lynn and Union Hospitals.
