A Great Story
Her Story
Giselle is from Lynn and attends Lynn Vocational Technical Institute. She has a 4.0 GPA, and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Giselle has completed college classes at North Shore Community College and is a certified Nursing Assistant trained in caring for patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s. She currently is working a co-op job at Brooksby Village. Giselle is also on the Swim Team, Indoor & Outdoor Track team, and a lifeguard at the YMCA.
When she first heard her mother had breast cancer in 2022, Giselle felt overwhelmed as she became her mom’s primary support system for two years, accompanying her to every medical appointment as a translator and source of comfort.
However, throughout her mother’s treatment at Beth Israel Lahey Health, Giselle saw firsthand what it is like in a hospital; she observed and learned from the doctors and nurses there. Giselle said, “it was never a boring time for me to be with my mom during her appointments”. These experiences fueled her interest in health care and she felt gratitude for the health care privileges we have.
Her teacher said, “Giselle is kind, compassionate, professional and her patients love her.” Giselle is undecided on what university she will be attending, but will be majoring in Pre-Med this fall.
Debbie Plunkett Memorial Scholarship
Debbie Plunkett of Lynn, passed away after a 10 year battle with cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Debbie faced many obstacles during her battle with cancer and fought with courage and grace till she passed. She had her mantra, “Life is Good!” She always maintained a positive attitude and lived this positive attitude till the end. Debbie’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends through this scholarship, funded by her family and friends.
