Ian Brown – $5,000 Scholarship Recipient

His Story

Ian Brown, is the 2025 recipient of the Mary Barbuzzi Memorial Scholarship. A dedicated student from Lynn, Ian attends Lynn English High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society, maintains a 4.1 GPA, and excels in both AP and Honors courses.

Beyond his academic achievements, Ian is a standout student-athlete. He has served as the Varsity Lacrosse Captain in both his junior and senior years and is also a member of the Varsity Football and Golf teams.

Ian’s journey has been deeply shaped by his family’s experiences with cancer. His mother has battled breast cancer three times—first diagnosed when he was in first grade and most recently during his senior year. Despite these challenges, Ian is grateful for the time he has spent supporting her, accompanying her to appointments, and, most of all, celebrating her victories over cancer. In addition to his mother’s diagnosis, his father has faced skin cancer, while both of his grandmothers have fought cancer.

These experiences have influenced Ian’s aspirations. Inspired by the compassionate care his mother received by her nurses, and the resilience of both his parents, Ian wants to become a pediatric nurse.

His dedication and character are widely recognized, as one of his teachers noted, “Ian is one of those rare students who is known and respected by both faculty and his peers alike.”

This fall, Ian will take the next step toward his goal as he begins his studies in nursing at Regis College. We congratulate Ian on his accomplishments.
