A Great Story
Her Story
Krysta is from Danvers and attends Danvers High School, where she has an 86.7% GPA. Krysta is a Varsity Soccer captain and a Varsity Indoor & Outdoor Track member.
Krysta’s mother passed away from Breast Cancer when she was two years old, and Krysta says she has an endless list of things she would give up to have known her Mom. Her aunt tells her that she’s a carbon copy of her mother, carrying her resilience, strength, sarcasm, and empathy.
Krysta thought cancer was done with her family, until high school when her dad was diagnosed with Renal Cancer. During the weeks he stays in the hospital, Krysta said, “the empty house resembles the emptiness that I remembered.”
Still, Krysta says, “I don’t plan on letting cancer win.” Her first step in standing up against cancer will be studying biology in college.” I want to prevent kids from losing their parents or feeling threatened by cancer. I want to join the team of people all over the world who are actively fighting against cancer.”
Krysta’s teacher said, “she’s as strong a teenager as you will find.”
Krysta will be attending Salem State University this fall majoring in biology.
Mary Barbuzzi Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of our dedicated Board member and dear friend Mary Barbuzzi who lost her battle with breast cancer in March 2018. It is funded by the Barbuzzi family and friends. Mary’s daughter Kaleigh, by the way is the newest member of our board.
