His Story
Nicholas grew up in Lynn, attended Lynn English High School and graduated Cum Laude from Emmanuel College with a degree in Biology.
After college, Nicholas pursued his interest in oncology conducting research at the National Institute of Health through UGSP, a program for high-performing students from disadvantaged backgrounds. His work focused on T-cell therapies for pediatric malignancies and on bladder cancer.
Nicholas did a year-long Radiation Oncology research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He led 4 projects as well as writing publications and abstracts covering clinical trials on head and neck oncology. The research doctors said, “Nick’s maturity, intuition for clinical research and productivity exceeds his level of training, and he will make a great oncologist.
Nicholas currently attends Tufts University School of Medicine and will graduate next week. He was matched into Radiation Oncology at Stanford and will start in 2025 after an intern year at Newton Wellesley Hospital.
F. John Bargoot, MD Memorial Scholarship
The F. John Bargoot, MD Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a medical school student who lived in Essex County during their high school education and who has a demonstrated interest in cancer treatment and prevention.
The late Dr. F. John Bargoot was past president and a long serving member of the Boston North Cancer Association’s Board of Directors.
