His Story
The 2025 David J. Solimine Honorary Scholarship recipient, Elliot Lyman, is from Gloucester and attends Rockport High School, where he maintains a 3.3 GPA.
A dedicated athlete, Elliot has been a member of the Rockport High School basketball team for the past four years. His passion for the sport extends beyond the court—he has volunteered with Rockport Youth Basketball, mentoring children in grades 1–5, and participated in Shot for Life, raising funds for cancer research. Additionally, he works as a counselor at Art Haven, supporting young artists.
Elliot’s resilience and empathy have been shaped by personal challenges. When he was nine, his mother was diagnosed with Large Cell Lymphoma, an experience that deepened his appreciation for life and strengthened his sense of compassion. In 2019, his younger brother was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis. Despite these hardships, Elliot is grateful for the excellent medical care his family has received and cherishes the time he and his brother still spend playing basketball together.
A teacher describes Elliot as “always kind, the type of player who goes out of his way to say hello and connect with one of his campers after every game.”
This fall, Elliot plans to pursue a degree in Sports Management.

David J. Solimine Sr. is the Founder of Solimine Funeral Homes. He is a lifelong Lynn resident and is deeply committed to the health and well being of North Shore residents. Dave takes pride in his deep community roots. He is a past President of the BNCA board of directors and is one of our longest-serving Board members.
